Sleepy Sunday

I used to hate Sundays. In high school Sunday was the day that seemed totally out of place. Most of the time I had to wake early (ish) and go to church with my mom. Then, I would sit around all day waiting for school to start the next day. My view on Sundays changed when I got to college though. I look forward to the unscheduled time waiting for me at the end of the week. I can actually get homework and errands done. It's really nice to have a day to relax before diving into the school week again.

I just got back from West Virginia yesterday evening. I was there with an Alternative Spring Break trip, doing my part to alleviate rural poverty. We painted the outside and kitchen of a house and put flooring down in the living room while there. I really liked hanging out with my group though, and feel as if I have made some lasting friendships through my experience in ASB. The best part about the trip was the fact that I was in the same group as Maddie. It was really great hanging with her for a week down in WV. The evenings (for the most part) were fun filled as well. One night we had the pleasure of seeing a bluegrass/folk band Appalachian Countdown. The most fun that I had was when we went to go see a Bluegrass/Gospel band play at a really cool arts collective called the RifRaf.

I have some reading to catch up on and I really need to start a paper that's due Wednesday. I ended up not doing any homework over break. At least I didn't go in with the expectation of being productive.

I'll leave you with a picture of myself splitting wood in WV.

neglect

I have been seriously neglecting this blog.

School has been pretty awesome and I have been keeping busy with student organizations.

My classes this semester rock.
I am taking Environment 350: The Built Environment, RCSSCI 330: Urban and Community Studies, Statistics 350 and Philosophy 224: Global Justice. My favorite class, hands down, is urban and community studies. We are reading about the urban crisis and talk about Detroit a lot.

I got a lot of cool music for Christmas. I got Joy Division's Closer and Still on vinyl, Serge Gainsbourg's Couleur Cafe, Serge Gainsbourg et Jane Birkin, and Du Jazz Dans Le Ravin and Sergio Mendes' Four Sider.

In other music news, I went to a Mos Def J Dilla tribute concert at Hill Auditorium that was unbelievable. I think it ranks second in my favorite concerts, only to Radiohead. In March, Justice and Diplo are playing the Royal Oak Music Theater together! This concert is going to be insane. Diplo is my favorite DJ and I have never had the opportunity to see him spin live. Justice puts on a really good show and I'm excited at the opportunity to see them again. Check out Justice's Xmas Mix.

Semester in Detroit was mentioned in the Detroit area alumni newsletter and buzz about the program has been building exponentially. I'm really excited to see where the program goes.

Sorry for the lack of updates recently. Finals got a little crazy and then the holidays hit. For some reason, I don't use the internet as often at home as I do at school.

I am going to make a massive post tomorrow about new music that I got over the holidays!

I am currently in Kalamazoo working on a study abroad program in Detroit through the University of Michigan with some other people. It's called Semester in Detroit.

f = v*n/change in length

I am almost done with school. I finished 3 of my 5 classes on Monday. All I have left is a crazy cumulative physics exam and a paper for my urban planning class!

I went to a dinner party for Semester in Detroit last night. I am really excited to be involved with Semester in Detroit because it is basically what I want to do with my life, urban revitalization and urban planning in Detroit.

I have a free pass to see Juno on Monday at home, let me know if you want one (they are online). I am also going to see I Am Legend on Tuesday in IMAX for the first six minutes of The Dark Knight.

I think that I am just going to make Mixes for all of my friends for this holiday season. I am poor and need to save my money for my Europe trip in April.

Enough procrastinating though. Here's a Brian Eno song that has been a good study companion.

Ghost

My yesterday:
  • class on minimal sleep (last Friday classes!)
  • dealt with MSA funding for like 2 hours
  • I went to Detroit with Semester in Detroit and got a driving tour of the city which was always something I've wanted to do
  • went to Kalamazoo for a friends birthday
I am exhausted and have to study more for the two finals I have on Monday.

This song has been pumping me up though!

You've Got the Fever

I need school to be over, I am exhausted (and I secretly only want to play Super Mario Galaxy).
I picked up 30 chairs for an Amnesty event at the UMMA offsite that we're having tonight.

Maddie and I had the pleasure of stopping at Dimo's again today after mailing 30 letters to Turkey and Brazil.

I have a free pass to see Juno on the 17th and I cannot wait.
Speaking of movies check out the new speed racer.

I can't stop listening to Chromeo today.

Ah oui comme ça"
